ABOUT US
EXPERIMENT Residency is a global, artist-led program built on the belief that creativity flourishes through exchange.
Each residency is place-based and shaped by its local context. We approach each location with care, working in dialogue with the communities and environments we inhabit. Residents are encouraged to not only draw inspiration from their surroundings, but also to share their knowledge, craft, and perspectives in return. Rather than prescribing a fixed theme, we create the conditions for creatives from different disciplines and backgrounds to learn from each other, their surroundings, and the communities they encounter.
Our second edition, for example, paired Berlin artists with different spätis across the city – Berlin’s equivalent of the New York City bodega – giving residents the opportunity to examine the histories and cultures behind the unassuming, often immigrant-owned cornershops at the heart of the city. Artists produced a variety of work, including a dance choreography, a series of portraits of späti visitors, and a shadow puppet show exploring the family history of a späti owner.
Beyond individual projects, we see the residency itself as a space for community-building, cultural exchange, and collective learning. In the past, residents have hosted public workshops on spray-painting, figure-drawing, writing, and more. Each residency culminates in a final presentation, allowing residents to share their work with the wider community.
Since 2025, we’ve run three 4-week programs across Berlin and Vietnam, featuring over twenty international artists. Our fourth edition took place in April-May 2026.
